| Inspired by the real-life story of Paddy Jadai, Co-Director Curtis Taylor’s grandfather, Jadai: The Broome Brawler takes a fresh look at police brutality and Australian Indigenous incarceration. Like many Aboriginal men both then and now, Jadai is wrongfully arrested and mistreated in prison. This film, however, takes a highly stylized visual approach to depict an Indigenous man rising above brutality and prejudice to earn the respect of his town. In 1970s Australia, local brawlers fought professional boxers for money in traveling boxing circuses. Paddy Jadai, of the Mangala people, was a real-life brawler living in Broome with his wife, Angelina, and their children. After years on the boxing circuit making money for others, he promises Angelina that he won’t fight anymore. But while keeping a low profile and focusing on feeding their family, the hot-headed brawler is taken in by corrupt cops one night and forced to fight Andre The Mad Russian in a long-odds fight that isn’t in his favor. |

| Deep in the country, in a small and forgotten village lives Nelson, the drunkard and the war hero…forgotten by his king and country. His family–wife and infant son–only wish for a cow…the “wet nurse” they call it. The story beings at the death of the cow…torn to pieces by a hungry she-wolf mother, because all the game has been exterminated by humans. Nelson is forced to exchange his war medals for three bullets by his cheapskate of a brother…his brother that lives lavishly on human sorrow. He makes the hunter an offer: three wolf skins and a deer in exchange for a new cow. Trapped, Nelson, now the Hunter, with his gun and his rage, makes for the forest while the wolf he seeks, seeks for someone’s death as her own consolation. |
